Statistics is an integral part of the drug discovery and development process at Bayer HealthCare. The department, “Research and Clinical Sciences Statistics” is responsible for all statistical aspects and statistical support of biopharmaceutical research, preclinical safety, and early clinical development up to proof of concept, as well as genomics and biomarkers; large and challenging, but also rewarding fields. The department, headed by Richardus Vonk, is a growing team of around 20 statisticians, located in Berlin and Wuppertal (Germany), and Whippany (USA), maintaining tight links to our colleagues in Beijing (China). To implement optimal collaboration with the functions involved in the drug discovery and development processes, people in our department work together across the boundaries of the areas that they support. Internal and external collaboration warrants the development and ensures implementation of advanced and innovative statistical methods.
